Structural Integrity

The structural integrity of components and machinery is essential to the cost effective running of any process in industry. The area can be divided into two parts:

1. Theoretical modelling or experiments performed with prospective equipment or components to determine their suitability for a production process. The analysis can be extended to determine other useful features of the components such as lifetime and performance.
2. Analysis can be performed on in-situ equipment and components in an already running production line. In this case, safety and lifetime are often the most important considerations when performing analysis.
   

Common structural integrity assessment includes stress/structural analysis, thermal analysis and vibration analysis.

Techniques for the analysis can include

• point bending,
  
• differential thermal gradients,
  
• liquid penetrants,
  
• ultrasonics,
  
• magnetic particle,
  
• radiography
  
• eddy current testing.
