Metallurgical processes

Abis offers control systems for metal and solder atomisation processes, which include industrial aluminium atomisation technology, small-scale atomisers for processing metal alloys on a semi-production basis and the manufacture of ultra-fine solder pastes.
Solder or metal powders are produced by a variety of atomisation processes, where molten alloy is broken into particles using a jet of gas, a spinning disc, or an ‘ultrasonic horn’.

The powders produced have relatively high density, a good flow rate, and are spherical in shape, which is important as a sphere will contain the smallest amount of oxide and for solders, non-spherical particles may jam the screen or stencil through which the paste is printed or clog the dispensing needle. It is necessary for the processes to be accurate, reproducible, reliable, and produce powders with stable characteristics. Our control and data acquisition systems monitor the process parameters such as the temperature of molten metal, the pressure of the atomizing medium, the flow rates of the molten metal and the atomizing medium, the velocity of the molten metal droplets and of the atomizing medium, size and size distribution of droplets and cooling rate. All the corresponding operating actions and relevant data of the equipment are concentrated on the communication system controlled by PC. Operating personnel can observe the internal condition of the equipment through PC displayer video image and carry out further operation on the related interface.
